Museums for Mother’s Day 2011

How about trying something different this year for Mother’s Day?

For you foodies out there, the new restaurant at LACMA, Ray’s Restaurant & Stark Bar, has a special Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday from 11-3pm.  It’s a bit pricey ($39 per person and $22 for kids under 12), but the 3-course meal looks well worth it — the Eggs Sardou with turned artichoke, poached egg, spinach and black truffle hollandaise sounds amazing. Seeing the restaurant and bar’s design, by famed architect Renzo Piano, is a treat too – the outdoor café has a view of the new Resnick Pavilion and Chris Burden’s lamp post sculpture “Urban Light.”

I’m going to the Getty Museum’s event “Mothers and Children.”  Getty educators will discuss works of art that have images of mothers and children.  There will be a slide presentation, tea conversation, and gallery viewing.   The course is on Sunday from 2-5pm.  There is a $30 fee and reservations are required.  We plan to eat at the restaurant before it starts. Then while I’m enjoying my afternoon of art talk, my husband will take the kids around the museum and garden.

Hope it’s a fun Mother’s Day whatever you decide to do!
